When you hear the name McLaren, your thoughts immediately turn to Formula 1, supercars and uncompromising engineering. For more than 60 years, McLaren has been synonymous with innovation, precision and performance at the very highest level. Now the company is taking the next step. With McLaren Golf, an entirely new premium brand is introduced, applying the same philosophy that has created some of the world’s fastest racing and sports cars to golf equipment. The result is two iron series developed for players who demand the same high standards from their golf clubs that McLaren demands from its cars.
There are many examples of well-known brands lending their name to products in other industries. McLaren Golf is something entirely different. The project has been developed from the ground up in collaboration with some of the golf industry’s most experienced club designers and McLaren’s own engineers. The ambition was never simply to create another premium iron – but to establish a new standard for how an iron set can be engineered. Every detail, from material selection and weight distribution to manufacturing precision and feel, has been analysed using the same methodology applied in motorsport.
Series 1 is designed for golfers who prioritise precision, control and feel.
The compact design is inspired by the preferences of tour players and delivers an exceptional combination of feedback and shot-shaping capability. It is an iron for players who want complete control over ball flight, spin and impact feel.
Series 3 builds on the same premium construction while offering greater stability and more assistance through impact.
The larger profile delivers higher ball speeds, increased forgiveness and a higher launch angle, while retaining the clean design and premium feel that define McLaren Golf. For many golfers, Series 3 will offer the perfect balance between performance and playability.
One of the most interesting aspects of McLaren Golf’s development is the use of Metal Injection Moulding (MIM).
MIM is an advanced manufacturing process that makes it possible to create extremely precise components with very tight tolerances. This gives the designers significantly greater freedom to optimise weight distribution, centre of gravity and feel compared with traditional manufacturing methods.
The result is a more consistent product, with every iron delivering the same high level of quality and performance.
It is immediately clear that McLaren Golf is about more than technology. The design takes inspiration from McLaren’s supercars, with clean lines, premium materials and subtle details that convey the same exclusive feel as the company’s iconic cars. Every iron has been developed to look as good in the bag as it performs on the golf course.
McLaren Golf has already attracted significant international attention. Major champion Justin Rose has been involved in the development for nearly two years and currently plays McLaren Series 1. High-profile players such as Ian Poulter and Michelle Wie West are also part of the McLaren Golf project, demonstrating the level of ambition behind the brand from the very beginning.
