Johan and Lisette Laurin run Pine Coast from Landskrona in Sweden. The brand grew out of a love for the game and the idea that golf is more than just a sport.
For them it comes down to the focus in every shot, every step and every thought on the course. The course is where the stress of everyday life can drop away, where the walk is the whole point. The stories written during a round matter more than what ends up on the scorecard.
Beyond the hand-sewn products, Pine Coast is on another journey too: mental health. A subject that rarely gets room in golf. Sewing headcovers and bags was never the whole idea. Pine Coast started just as much to get more people talking about mental health. They support mental-health organisations, while Johan and Lisette are open about their own story so that golfers can find each other, on and off the course.

The leather for both headcovers and bags comes from a tannery in Tuscany now run by its fourth generation. It is vegetable-tanned, which means the hide sits in bark extract for at least 30 days instead of being chrome-treated in a day.
The method is slower and more expensive. It is also the reason the leather darkens and takes on a patina instead of cracking and flaking.
That is the whole point of leather in a golf bag. What you buy today looks better three seasons from now than it does brand new.
Leather is only one of three materials. Inside every leather headcover sits a lining of wool blend. Wool is soft and protects your woods in the wet and the dry.
The wool comes from a Polish mill that has been running since the 1880s and still weaves for the Polish army.
The body of the bags is waxed cotton canvas from Scotland. The same cloth that holds up to Scottish weather handles a rough autumn day in Sweden too.
Everything is sewn by hand in a small leather workshop in Białystok in eastern Poland. A natural place, given the city's long tradition of leatherwork.
Production runs are small and one seamstress sews one product at a time. That is also why single colours sell out and come back in batches rather than sitting on the shelf year round.
At the bottom of every headcover there is a sewn-in elastic band, a small detail that keeps the headcover in place when you lift the bag.

The bag weighs just over a kilo and still takes a full set of fourteen clubs. No rigid spine, so it folds up and stows away. The leather handle at the top holds it upright while you pick a club, the rangefinder goes in the angled pocket halfway up, and the zip pocket and bottle holder sit low so they counterbalance the clubheads.

Vegetable-tanned leather doesn't need much, but it needs the right thing. Wipe it with a lightly damp cloth and let it dry at room temperature – never on a radiator or in direct sun, which leaves the leather stiff.
If the leather feels dry after a season, a little colourless leather balm applied thinly is enough. Water marks and scuffs usually even out on their own as the product gets used.
Let the club dry before you put the headcover back on. The wool lining handles moisture, but it dries faster in the open air than inside a closed bag.
